Giovannimaria Pensa, today's president of ODE, is the man who had the idea to establish a machine shop in the village of Esino Lario, close to the Como Lake.
The founder's intuition was linked to the local context that was experiencing a very difficult phase.
It was 1960 and Esino Lario had a very precious and rare artistic wealth such as the collection of tapestries realized over drawings by famous artists, kept in the Scuola degli Arazzi, and the archaeological finds from the eastern Lario area that are exposed in the Museo Mineralogico e Archeologico delle Grigne ; important and beautiful evidences immersed in the suggestive frame of the austere chain of Grigne mountains.
But Esino did not have any productive settlement that could dissuade the working population from migrating to more industrialized areas.
Therefore, Giovannimaria Pensa transformed his intuition in reality, also urged by his father who was the mayor of the village at that time. Hoping to fill that lack of qualified jobs, he converted a small warehouse into a machine shop and started his own activity. His entrepreneurial vision was quickly successful and had an astonishing impact also on the territory.
The historical seat of Esino Lario is now used as warehouse for materials but it is still emotionally active; in 1992 the company moved to the more prestigious settlement of Colico .
